PVRIS and The 'Star Quality'

PVRIS is an American rock band from Lowell, Massachusetts formed by members Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, Alex Babinski, Brian MacDonald, Brad Griffin and Kyle Anthony. The band formed originally under the name "Paris" but later changed it to "PVRIS" in the summer of 2013 citing legal reasons. However it is still pronounced "Paris", and the "V" acts as an upside down "A".They have released a self-titled EP and an acoustic EP.In June 2014 they announced that they were signed to Rise/Velocity Records and released their single "St. Patrick" on June 20, 2014 along with a music video. They have a full length album "White Noise" slated for release on November 4, 2014.

PVRIS are promoted by well known record label 'Rise Records' who also promote popular bands such as Hands Like Houses, Man Overboard, Of Mice and Men, and Sleeping With Sirens. By being promoted by a label such as Rise Records, PVRIS able to gain a fan base quickly due to the immense popularity of other bands involved with this record label.
Additionally, PVRIS have been featured in favoured rock magazine, KERRANG! - Gaining them mass media coverage for their new album.

PVRIS' album cover for 'White Noise''s main focus is of a mirror. The connotations of using this imagery can be used for various meanings, such as a place for (mental) reflection, self-analysis, vanity, fractured personality/confusion (multiple reflections), suspense. When listening to the album, these possible ideas are fairly prominent through lyrics such as;
"I just wanna see a trace or an outline."
"It's my soul, and I think it's time to get out."
"I'll face my fear of the evening"
This artwork is alternative and edgy, and could therefore help promote the album to a certain kind of audience. With lyrics such as these, and the connotations of the artwork seem to generate the theme that the songs are each about trying to 'find yourself' and so the audience, quite common for the rock scene, are likely to be those who are going through some stage of emotional self-analysis.

Within the media, PVRIS have appeared to make an impact, especially on social networking sites, such as twitter;

Tweets such as these from fans illustrate just how much of an impact PVRIS have had in such a short amount of time, as the first tweets states that only in a matter of 6 months, their music has had, a somewhat major impact on them. As well as this, PVRIS are receiving promotion through influential twitter pages such as BUZZNET and KERRANG!
Through these tweets, it is evident that PVRIS are fitting the 'star quality image' portrayed by Dyer as, audiences such as the third tweet down, strive to complete the image by engaging with the star’s meta-narrative and, if possible, seek the ultimate satisfaction of seeing them live.

By having interviews on websites such as YouTube, PVRIS fit the star quality by enabling their audience to 'get to know them' and relate to them on a personal level, especially as the videos are on such a worldwide and accessible webpage, this fits Dyer's theory that the star is 'is both present & absent.’ and that is that the star is simultaneously present in our lives.
